# Server4Agent vs Fly.io Sprites: a computer for your agent, and the tools it ships

> Your agent gets a persistent server it reaches over MCP: it writes code and files, runs programs and scripts, and keeps background jobs going. When you want a finished tool, our build agent ships it under a budget cap, private until you choose who can open it, as a project your team can take over.

## Choose Fly.io Sprites when

- Your apps already run on Fly.io and you want your agents' machines on the same platform.

## Choose Server4Agent when

- Your agent needs its own persistent server: to write code and files, run programs and scripts, and keep background jobs and schedules running.
- You also want finished tools: our build agent ships them, private until you choose who can open them.
- You start from the chat app you already use, or the dashboard. No terminal needed.
- You want an account-wide budget cap, private-by-default projects, team-only access, and a handoff your engineers can open in a browser editor.

## Side by side

| | Fly.io Sprites | Server4Agent |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | A Linux computer for your agent to work in. | A persistent server your agent works on, plus a build agent that turns the work into a tool at a live link. |
| Who builds | Your agent. You bring the coding agent and the harness. | Your own agent over MCP or REST, our managed build agent from a goal, or both. AI credits included for ours. |
| What runs there | Whatever your agent installs and starts. | Code, files, programs and scripts your agent writes, background processes, scheduled jobs, and web apps at a stable URL. |
| How you connect | CLI, REST API, SDKs and an MCP server. | MCP from any compatible assistant, REST, webhooks, or the dashboard. Nothing to install. |
| Sharing | A URL per machine, private to your organization or public. | A stable URL per project: private by default, open to your team or named teammates, public when you choose. |
| Spend | Metered by the hour for CPU, memory and storage, with plans that include an allowance. | Dollar credits included in every plan, and an account-wide budget cap that stops agent spend at the ceiling you set. |
| Teams | Organizations. | Owner, admin, member and viewer roles, team-only links, and handoff to your engineers in a browser editor. |
| Where it runs | Fly.io's platform. | Our managed platform, or your own cloud account on Enterprise. |

## Questions

**Is Server4Agent a Fly.io Sprites alternative?**

Yes. Both give your agent a persistent computer to work on. Server4Agent adds what turns that work into something people use: a build agent, team-only or public links, a budget cap and team roles.

**Can my own agent use the server directly?**

Yes. Over MCP your agent writes code and files, runs commands, programs and scripts, and keeps background processes and scheduled jobs running; REST covers files and commands. Not everything it builds has to be a web app.

**Do I need to bring my own agent?**

No. Server4Agent includes a managed build agent and the AI credits it uses. Bring your own as well if you like: it works on the same server.

**Can a non-technical teammate use it?**

Yes. Connect the chat app you already use once, or type the goal in the dashboard. Nothing to install.

**How do the pricing models differ?**

Sprites meters the machine by the hour against a plan allowance, and the AI your own agent uses is a separate bill. Server4Agent plans include dollar credits, our build agent's AI included, and the budget cap you set on the account is the hard ceiling.

**What happens to a tool after it is built?**

It stays: a project with a stable URL, its files and its full history. Change it later by asking again, share it with your team or named teammates, or hand it to an engineer in a browser editor.

**Is what I build private?**

Yes. A new project serves nothing until you choose who may open it: your team, named teammates, or the public.
